The Prairieland Animal Welfare Center
Knox County Humane Society (KCHS) is a not-for-profit organization which provides the following services and operations:
- Operates the City of Galesburg Animal Control Program and provides boarding services for municipalities throughout the Knox County.
- Investigates animal cruelty and neglect cases.
- Provides low-cost gooming clinic
- Provides community education programs concerning animal over population issues and general pet care.
- Has established a foundation to provide for the long-term financial stability and continuation of the work of the KCHS. A KCHS Contributor helps to support these programs: Operation of the Animal Shelter Pet Adoption Spay/Neuter Assistance Community Education Program Investigation of Animal Cruelty and Neglect Cases.
- Operates an adoption program for homeless pets on-site 6 days a week. An additional Sunday adoption program is held monthly with a program at Carl Sandburg Mall one Saturday a month. Great care is taken by Shelter staff in ensuring the right animal goes to prospective adopters.
